Truth about our "low" taxes

3/15/2014

Richfield Today learned that residents in some areas of Richfield recently received a political flyer touting the idea that the writers know the truth about low taxes.

The danger to Richfield is not the low taxes as stated in the political flyer but a citizenry capable of entrusting our government to Gill Frank and Bill Meyers. To retain common sense and good judgment in their elected officials Richfield citizens must re-elect Dan Neu and Bill Collins.
This group of unknown Richfield citizens who wrote, paid for printing, and delivered the flyer (probably having violated Election Law in doing so) are blaming Richfield's taxes as a reason to change your elected officials. Without knowing the difference between the various community budgets as depicted in the flyer it is like a child trying to decide what candy to buy. All candy looks good but some have nuts in them.

Just as you cannot compare apples to oranges one cannot compare tax rates of the Town of Erin, Town of Hartford, Town of West Bend to the Village of Richfield without knowing the details.

1. All towns state wide, including those noted on the flyer, receive FREE Sheriff services per WI State Law, meaning they do not have to put that cost in their budget. In 2007, when Richfield became a Village it had to provide police service and it was decided to contract with Washington County Sheriff rather than create it's own Police Department. Good decision which has kept taxes low!

2. All communities in Wisconsin receive snow in most winters. The town of Polk does not provide snow plowing services to their subdivisions, they plow the few main roads in Polk. Residents in each subdivision must privately contract to have their snow removed. Richfield like most communities has purchased snow plow trucks and hires drivers to plow your snow each day. Do you really want to depend on and pay for private snow plow service?

Stay tuned for more reasons to vote to Re-Elect Dan Neu and Bill Collins.

My vote is to re-elect Dan Neu & Bill Collins. I have seen the use of bad tactics, and would not vote differently.
