Thousands of viewers to see Washington County through the lens

Washington County is being featured on Discover Wisconsin, the nation’s longestrunning tourism TV show. Premiering today and Sunday, “The Home Stretch — Ice Age National Scenic Trail” will reach about 480,000 viewers across the upper Great Lakes region, including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Northern Illinois and Upper Michigan. The program airs locally at 10 a.m. Sunday on FOX Channel 6, according to a news release.

“I think a lot of people are surprised when they come to Washington County,” said Elaine Motl, Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau executive director. “With our expansive county park system along with unique modern and historic attractions, there is so much to do while discovering the beautiful Ice Age Trail.

“We’re very excited to show ‘Discover Wisconsin’s’ viewers what Washington County is all about.”

The program co-hosts Libby Amato, Collin Geraghty, Mariah Haberman and Eric Paulsen as they split up to discover what makes sections of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail special.

Paulsen takes up the Washington County unit of the trail where he joined the Ice Age Trail’s Mobile Skills Crew as more than 200 volunteers were creating an additional 2 miles of trail in Washington County.

The crew also made stops at Holy Hill, Washington County Fair Park and Conference Center, the Museum of Wisconsin Art, the village of Kewaskum and more. Among area residents featured along those stops are Laurie Winters (MOWA), Motl, Sandy Lang (Fair Park) and Gino Giudice (Kewaskum).

“It’s really remarkable how much work goes into maintaining and creating the trail while keeping it so in harmony with its surroundings,” Paulsen said in the news release. “I have a lot of respect for the thousands of volunteers and Ice Age Trail Alliance staff who make this trail what it is.” This is the fourth installment of “Discover Wisconsin’s” journey on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. Mike Wollmer, executive director of the Ice Age Trail Alliance believes the experiences along the trail may surprise those who visit.

“Over the course of over 1,000 miles that it traverses over Wisconsin, the diversity of experiences and environments the Ice Age Trail provides is remarkable,” said Mike Wollmer, Ice Age Trail Alliance executive director. “Wisconsin is a very beautiful state — the trail unlocks that beauty to a lot of people!”

The episode was produced in partnership with Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Delafield Area Chamber of Commerce, Door County Visitor’s Bureau, Ice Age Trail Alliance, Sheboygan County Chamber and “Discover Wisconsin.”

“Discover Wisconsin” is shown statewide on Fox Sports North at 10 a.m. Saturday mornings.
