Tiana went to his side and determined he was non-responsive and started CPR. With assistance 911 was called. A message was relayed to Washington County Sheriff Deputy Keith Kuipelis, assigned to Richfield, who arrived on the scene in less than one-half minute as noted by Washington County Lieutenant Schulteis. Deputy Kuipelis had to use an AED on the fallen worker.
Richfield Volunteer Fire Company Captain James Creegan arrived shortly thereafter and began to assist in care of the fallen worker. Within 2 minutes the RVFC rescue squad arrived and they transported the man to an area hospital. During that trip they had to use an AED twice to keep the patient alive. They arrived with the patient alive and breathing.
Washington County Lieutenant Schulteis noted that while the man has some lingering complications he is alive. Had Tiana not acted so quickly the man probably would not be alive today.
Village board members each complimented the actions of Tiana A. Young, Sheriff Keith Kuipelis and Fire Captain James Creegan. Trustee Dan Neu thanked the Sheriff Department for assisting when they have emergency calls. "You never know what you are going into when you respond to a call, the deputies provide security for our volunteers."
Tiana A. Young, who really wanted to attend last nights meeting, was not able to as she is pregnant and having some complications.
