Recently Richfield Today learned of a few support groups within the village and thought it might be helpful to provide this information to our readers. If you know of others that can be added to this list email Richfield Today at richfieldtoday@gmail.com

~Grieving Mom's Support Group
~Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Meetings
~Germantown Mom's Club

~Grieving Mom's Support Group is led by Terry Bogus and meets the second Monday of each month, 6 p.m. at Logger's Park in Richfield. Terry started this group 2 summers ago after losing her son. There were no support groups in the area that just focused on the grieving Mom. When losing a child, a parent feels like their heart has been ripped out and trying to cope with the intense grief while continuing to live their own lives is overwhelming and usually unbearable. Knowing that one is not alone does make it a bit more bearable.

There are about 18 moms in the group and usually have about 15 at the meetings. Members have a variety of causes of death and different ages of when their child died. Some moms are 6 years out in their grieving while others are much newer. The get-together's are informal with no agendas, but topics are available if needed to get the discussion started.

Discussion focuses on ways to cope with a loss, how to survive the "anniversaries', birthdays, death dates and holidays. This group provides a place where moms can open up unconditionally and express all those feelings with other moms having the same emotions in an effort to lessen that pain. Sometimes it's just a phone call or going out for coffee.
The group will occasionally have some fun activities in order to stress that life can go on without losing the memories of their children.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Meetings This group meets at Shepherd of the Hills Church on Highway 175, each Thursday at 7 p.m. Their mission is to eliminate dependence on alcohol, and offer in its place life changing steps to help maintain sobriety. The meetings provide a safe and confidential environment for men and women having problems dealing with alcohol addiction.

Germantown Mom's Club This group from the Germantown and surrounding communities gathers the second Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Church. The group provides fellowship and support to discuss topics that affect young moms.
