Just about one year away from Election Day in November 2014, Jay Schroeder (R-Neenah) announced he will run for the Republican nomination for Secretary of State. Schroeder becomes the second Republican to seek the party's nomination for Secretary of State. If elected, he promised to work with legislators in getting a statewide referendum approved to eliminate the office of Secretary of State. When arguing his case for elimination, Schroeder referenced an editorial from a Wisconsin newspaper that called on legislators to eliminate the office of Secretary of State about 60 years ago.
