The 4-year-old kindergarten program through St. Gabriel Catholic School, Richfield, has been so successful that it has outgrown its current location inside St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
“Our program is growing and the church membership is growing, so the church needs the space,” she said. Since its beginning, Mortell said, “we wanted to have our K4 program at the school, but there wasn't room here.”
A solution for the space crunch may be in the offing, however, as Mortell said approval has been given to the school by the parish council to look into purchasing a portable classroom to be put on the school grounds for use by the K4 program.
“We are looking at a mobile classroom that was used by the West Bend School District,” Mortell said. To add it to the school, permission will also be needed from Richfield, she said.
“We will be taking the plan to the village for approval in the upcoming months,” Mortell said. If everything goes as planned, the K4 program will expand to a full day, she said.
“We surveyed our parents and they responded that they would like the program to be full day and have it located at the school,” Mortell said. “They are very supportive of the move and the expansion.”
The school has 138 students enrolled in K4 through eighth grade.
