Silence is a Strategy

Does Hillary Clinton's silence during this election cycle remind you of anyone else? Why has she gone over 300 days without holding a press conference. The Washington Post noted on August 24, 2016 it was 263 days.  Business Insider noted on Sept. 3, 2016 that it was 273 days. Now it is well over 300 days without a press conference. Do you wonder why the silence?

How many of you remember when Barack Obama won the United States Senate election to become the Senator from Illinois.  Once he got to be the U.S. Senator from Illinois he did not vote on any issue.  He voted Present on each issue. Check the history and you will find no votes other than Present. Tom Daschle was an important player in making that strategy happen.
Tom Daschle a U.S. Senator from South Dakota was an early supporter of Barack Obama's presidential candidacy, and was offered the position of Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services after the 2008 election. He was President Obama's nominee to serve as the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) in the Cabinet, but withdrew his name on February 3, 2009, amid a growing controversy over his failure to accurately report and pay income taxes.  Source: Wikipedia.

Daschle speaks during the third night of the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado.

On February 21, 2007, the Associated Press reported that Daschle, after ruling out a presidential bid of his own in December 2006, had thrown his support behind Senator Barack Obama of Illinois for the 2008 presidential election, saying that Obama "personifies the future of Democratic leadership in our country.

In January 2005, having suggested that Obama take on some of his staffers, Daschle exited the Senate just as Obama entered. These included Daschle's outgoing chief-of-staff Pete Rouse who helped to create a two-year plan in the Senate that would fast-track Obama for the presidential nomination. Daschle himself told Obama in 2006 that "windows of opportunity for running for the presidency close quickly. And that he should not assume, if he passes up this window, that there will be another."

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Daschle served as a key advisor to Obama and one of the national co-chairs for Obama's campaign.  On June 3, 2008, Obama lost to Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary in Daschle's home state of South Dakota, although that night Obama clinched his party's nomination anyway.

Two days later, sources indicated Daschle "is interested in universal health care and might relish serving as HHS secretary."  In the general election campaign, Daschle continued to consult Obama, campaign for him across swing states, and advise his campaign organization until Obama was ultimately elected the 44th President of the United States on November 4, 2008. Source: Wikipedia.

Now a surprise.  A few days after Obama was elected President I saw a video on Channel 10 in which Tom Daschle was interviewed and explained he and a few others saw the up and coming Senator and felt he could become President. He explained how they orchestrated his election campaign for President and among other things Obama was told he was not to vote For or Against any issue as a US Senator. He was to vote Present. Essentially keep quiet.

If you remember it was almost impossible for anyone to show where Obama stood on any issue during his campaign for President. The Republicans hands were tied when trying to inform the public on the consequences of Obama as President and how any former stance, opinions, or votes might impact Americans if they elected him President.

Now we see Hillary silent unless she has the questions before an interview so she can script all her answers.

Is that what you want in your next President? Is she someone who may not tell the American people what is happening and how she is making decisions?

Remember Silence got Obama elected and perhaps it will happen again for Clinton.

Silence is their strategy.  Time for you to Elect Donald J. Trump

Much easier to win if no one knows what you stand for so that you do not offend them. Plenty of time to show them what you stand for after the fact. Effective if you are the person running; terribly bad if you are the voter even though you think you know the person for whom you are voting.

I'd like to be able thank Tom Daschle in person but that'll likely never happen. Wonder if he ever has doubted his actions that have led us to this point?
