Reflections Village Development in Village of Richfield

8/3/2013

Recently some lamenting citizens distributed a flyer expressing annoyance with a land development in Richfield. Can they really be unhappy or are they just wanting to cause hate and confusion?

If they are Richfield residents they should be happy. Just the rezoning from agricultural zoning to residential zoning generates more tax revenue for the village. As more homes are built the village receives additional taxes due to increased value of the property. This is good news when you consider the cost of road maintenance for the village.

I suspect this was written and distributed by a combination of local residents and others who do not live in the village. Are they wanting to get on the ballot again in the next election? Not sure this is the winning way.

One important item that needs to be noted. When the town applied for village status it had to meet certain WI State criteria and standards. One criteria is 10% of the area needs to be supplied with community water and sewer which the Town of Richfield did not offer. This particular development offers communal well and sewer. This was a new concept that the state had approved and they were glad to see we had in place in this development. This development helped Richfield stay Richfield.

The flyer incorrectly states only 1/4 acre lots. As usual this group does not tell you all the truth.  In reality lot sizes range from 1/4 to over 1/2 acre.

I suspect you will see more flyers from this group in the coming months. Hold on to your hats. You never know what crazy ideas they will put forth.
