July Richfield Village Board Agenda Items

7/26/2015

The July 23rd Richfield village board agenda included 9 items. A few items are noteworthy.

Item 4 Report a: Proposed landfill at 609 Scenic Road — Village Administrator Healy.

Administrator Healy noted so far the cost to the village to manage the Scenic Pit issue has totaled $45,000. It is hoped the court date will be set for some time in September.    (Tax payer money paying for this?)

Item 5 Public Comments: 15 people spoke during public comments. Only 3 of those spoke in favor of the Scenic Pit landfill. Many others spoke against the landfill.

Jeff Gonyo spoke in favor of the Scenic Pit landfill and was told many times to keep his comments focused on the agenda item.  He kept adding information about other issues and did not stay on the agenda item referring to the Scenic Pit. Ultimately Village President John Jeffords had to ask him to be seated. Do you like the tone of his voice?

Danah Zoulke spoke next. Did she want compensation from the village for not being able to dump at the landfill while waiting for the court date? The court case that she herself started.
(Tax payer money paying for this?)

When one speaks during Public Comments the person is speaking to the village board, not to the public in attendance. Did Danah scream and yell about the recent activities at her home when she spoke to the village board members?

Video of Jeff Gonyo and Danah Zoulek at July 25th Richfield village board meeting.  Do you like the tone of her voice? Did Jeff teach her to talk that way? Is that how someone talks professionally at a public meeting? Would a communication instructor call that a persuasive or controlling speech?

While no one should be subjected to the recent activities that have occurred at her home, she lost her sense of professionalism when she yelled at the board, none of whom caused the activities at her home. Did Danah and a few of her friends come in wearing matching tee shirts in support of the landfill?

Item 7 a: Discussion/Action regarding the recommendation of the Richfield Volunteer Fire Company to hire MSI General for Construction Management Services — Fire Station No. 1, Heritage Park.

Board members unanimously approved the decision to hire MSI General. There will be a slight delay to finalize the contract as the decision must be reviewed and approved by the village attorney.

Terry Kohl, Fire Chief of the Richfield Volunteer Fire Company liked the idea that the fire company would have more flexibility in design with this construction company.

Look for a possible ground breaking within the next 12 months.

It amazes me that with the Scenic Pit issue now in court with several parties involved, people are still commenting on this in public forums. I would think it would be best to let the courts play it out.

No worries. I was just posting that it surprises me that people are still commenting on this either online or at board meetings while their cases are in court. Obviously the Scenic Pit owners & supporters have been active here and at meetings, and although I do not know any names, I would guess some of the RRAD members have spoken or posted as well. I am not speaking from experience, but more so am trying to politely give advice- that I think it would be best to have 'no comment' until everything is resolved in the court system.

Like I have said before on this site- even though what the Scenic Pit is proposing to do may be legal once they have all permits in place (I work in construction, and have not heard of a development taking place without local permits and or bonds), the unrest that this project has caused, justified or not, does not seem to be worth it in the long run. Again, best of luck to both sides.

That is how Danah communicates. I'm not surprised. Not so sure Jeff taught her that. Have had several interactions with her related to her dog always being loose. She quickly resorts to name calling, inappropriate gestures, etc when you give her feedback about needing to re-think her dog containment, put a collar/name tag on your dog, etc. Very disrespectful to neighbors. Pretty much everyone in our neighborhood has had an experience like this with her.
