He served in the 32nd Division of the Army during World War II in the Pacific, where he once met Gen. Douglas McArthur.
In 1947 he married Jean Marie Gentz of Laona. They lived at Bark Lake, Hubertus, where they raised eight children. Del worked as a travelling auditor for PPG Industries to support his family, where some of his favorite destinations included New Orleans, Death Valley and Butte, Montana. After his retirement, he was active in The Richfield Lions Club, serving as its secretary from 1983-2001.
Del was preceded in death by his wife Jean and eldest son Daniel (Yolanda, Karen and Jean).

Great-grandkids Baker, Nolan, Edith, Avalynn, Luis, Savanna, Cruz, Troy, Sara, Owen, Anna, Sylvia, Marcus, Julien, Katie, Dylan, Willow, Joseph, Linus and Eleanor. Other friends, relatives and in-laws including Jane Kirsch, Karl and Loretta Gentz, Phil and Irene Gentz, Bea Gentz, Mary Strand and many nieces and nephews.
