Regional Tax to Finance Milwaukee Development

11/30/2013

Let Richfield Today know your thoughts on a Regional Tax to Finance Milwaukee Development.

There’s going to be a discussion at the next West Bend Common Council meeting regarding a regional tax to help finance development in Milwaukee.

The proposal was first pitched by the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce in an effort to either renovate or replace the Bradley Center. The idea is similar to the 0.1 percent Miller Park sales tax. That stadium tax is still in place for Washington County and four other counties in southeastern Wisconsin.

This article is from the Daily Union, a newspaper in Jefferson County

The Mid-Wisconsin Federated Library System, comprised of three counties including Washington County, will remain autonomous following a vote Tuesday not to pursue a merger with the Lakeshores Library System.

The Mid-Wisconsin System’s board discussed the possible merger in closed session, and then reconvened in open session for a vote, ultimately deciding that pursuing a merger would not be the board’s best interests.

The MWFLS is a consortium of all public libraries in Washington, Jefferson, and Dodge counties. By taking part in the system, the 27 public libraries can share resources, programs and funding opportunities, as well as take part in a shared online catalog system.

Emerging roundabouts in area elicit strong reactions

By DAVE RANK     Daily News Staff

Roundabouts are sprouting up in Washington County and the rest of Wisconsin like fairy rings in a forest meadow. Mention roundabouts and someone will share their opinion.

“I love roundabouts,” West Bend’s Dave Kliss said. “I can get through without getting stuck in the intersection and I always feel safer in a roundabout.”

For good reasons, highway designers say. “The primary reason is safety,” said Patrick Fleming, a Wisconsin Department of Transportation standards development engineer. “Because of lower speeds and the circular angles, you don’t get the severity of crashes you do in traditional intersections, the T-collision.”

Have you ever wondered who are the recipients of the Medal of Honor? Or how many recipients of the Medal of Honor are still living? Or what is the average age of a Medal of Honor recipient?

The Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation's Character Development Program(CDP) is inspiring students and adults with their stories. Maj. General Patrick Brady, a Dustoff helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War said, "There is no future for America unless we grow patriots - not just people who say they love America, but people who support and defend America. The CDP is interested in taking our life experiences and passing them on to young people in an effort to improve their lives as well as strengthen the nation."

The approved land use plan for Reflection Village includes 3 phases. The first phase includes 56 platted lots.  Recently Richfield Today learned 19 homes are either fully built or in the finishing stages of being completed.

Three additional homes are in the approval process with the Richfield Architectural Board.  That board reviews each proposed home in Reflection Village to make sure the home design meets standards set for that development.

As of today, Reflection Village has approximately 1/3 of the approved home sites in phase one completed. Looking forward to completion of phase one.

A friend of Richfield Today provided this interesting information.

This was recorded 47 years ago. April 3, 1965. An amazing prediction. Do you remember the famous ABC radio commentator Paul Harvey?

Millions of Americans listened to his programs which were broadcast over 1,200 radio stations nationwide.

When you listen to this, remember the commentary was broadcast 47 years ago on April 3, 1965.

It's short...less than three minutes. You will be amazed by Paul Harvey.

On November 13th the West Bend Daily News published a letter to the editor from Rock Brandner of Richfield. In advance of including the letter it is noteworthy to include historical election information posted on the Washington County web site.

Spring election 2008
Don Kriefall 366 votes 48.6%
Bill Meyers 387 votes 51.3%
(only 22 more votes and Don Kriefall would have won)

Spring election 2010
Bill Meyers 338 votes (no opposition)
(less votes than in 2008. Consider, if he was doing a great job as Supervisor why did he receive less votes than in 2008)

Spring election 2012
Don Kriefall 620 votes 56.78%
Bill Meyers 468 votes 42.86
(Landslide for Don Kriefall)
