RHS Program on Ellis Island

10/27/2016

Tonight the Richfield Historical Society held their October meeting at the Richfield Fire Hall and their program focused on Ellis Island. Two society members described how they gathered genealogy on immigrants to the Richfield area and created various story boards titled Coming to America, coming to Wisconsin and coming to Richfield.  These boards will be available to community groups for display.

A historical overview was presented on immigration in the 1800's and 1900's followed by a video and audio titled "Island of Hope and Island of Tears".  It focused on Ellis Island in New York. Over 60 people attended this program.

Here is a link to that video for those who could not attend the presentation.

Please consider attending the November meeting/program on Tuesday, November 15th at the Richfield Village Hall.
“Sacred Drum Circle” by Herb Heck – Dirty Kettle Re-enactor will be the program for November.

Look forward to seeing you in November.

The hours are flexible based on your availability.  If you can give 3-4 hours per month of your time, you will make a difference in your community.  Professional hygienist license is required.

Note this Clinic is available to residents of Richfield that qualify.

Somethings Interesting about Donald Trump

10/21/2016

Some interesting info about Donald Trump the media will not tell you

Donald Trump is a racist, bigot, sexist, xenophobe, anti-Semitic and Islamophobe -- did I miss anything?  The left and the media launch these attacks at Trump every day – yet nothing could be further from the truth about the real estate mogul.

As an entertainment journalist, I’ve had the opportunity to cover Trump for over a decade, and in all my years covering him I’ve never heard anything negative about the man until he announced he was running for president.  Keep in mind, I'm paid a lot of money to dig up dirt on celebrities like Trump for a living, so a scandalous story on the famous billionaire could potentially sell a lot of magazines and would’ve been a huge feather in my cap.

Instead, I found that Trump doesn’t drink alcohol or do drugs, he’s a hard working businessman and totally devoted to his wife and children. On top of that, he’s one of the most generous celebrities in the world, with a heart filled with more gold than his $100 million New York penthouse.

2004 was the first season The Apprentice aired and I worked as an entertainment columnist for the “Red Eye Edition" of the Chicago Tribune and a freelancer for Us Weekly. I had a gut feeling that Chicago contestant Bill Rancic was going to win the reality show.  I contacted Rancic and covered the hit show the entire season.  I managed to score an invitation to New York for the show’s grand finale and after-party.  This is where I first met Trump and was able to ask him a few questions.

That year, Rancic did win The Apprentice.  I attended the show's finale episodes the next two years in a row.  Between that and the frequent visits Trump, and his family made to Chicago during construction of the Trump International Hotel &Tower, I was able to meet most of his family, as well.  I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with them.

Van T Barfoot died...

10/20/2016

Remember the
Guy who wouldn't take
The flag pole
Down on his Virginia
Property a
While back?
You might
Remember the news story several
Months ago
About a crotchety old man in
Virginia who
Defied his local Homeowners
Association,
And refused to take down the
Flag pole on
His property along with the large
American flag
He flew on it.
Now we learn
Who that old man was.
On June 15,
1919, Van T. Barfoot was born in
Edinburg,
Texas . That probably didn't make
News back
Then.

But
Twenty-five years later, on May 23, 1944,
Near
Carano  , Italy ,
That same Van T. Barfoot,
Who had in
1940 enlisted in the U.S. Army, set
Out alone to
Flank German machine gun
Positions
From which gunfire was raining
Down on his
Fellow soldiers.
His advance
Took him through a minefield but
Having done
So, he proceeded to single-handedly
Take out
Three enemy machine gun positions,
Returning
With 17 prisoners of war.

R.I.P. Thank You For Your Service

The Catholic Church - Eye Opener

Charity Hospital run by the Sisters of Charity in New Orleans, along with the Upjohn company developed the plasma system in the 1930's that saved so many lives in WWII, Korea, Vietnam and in the Middle East now.

During the Civil War most of the nurses were nuns.

Even if you are not Catholic, this is eye opening:

When the Catholic Church was founded, there were no hospitals. Today, one out of five people in this country receive their medical care at a Catholic hospital.

Silence is a Strategy

10/14/2016

Does Hillary Clinton's silence during this election cycle remind you of anyone else? Why has she gone over 300 days without holding a press conference. The Washington Post noted on August 24, 2016 it was 263 days.  Business Insider noted on Sept. 3, 2016 that it was 273 days. Now it is well over 300 days without a press conference. Do you wonder why the silence?

How many of you remember when Barack Obama won the United States Senate election to become the Senator from Illinois.  Once he got to be the U.S. Senator from Illinois he did not vote on any issue.  He voted Present on each issue. Check the history and you will find no votes other than Present. Tom Daschle was an important player in making that strategy happen.
