Author...Author    Sunken Dreams

6/19/2016

Richfield now has a published author...Steve Kuehn, who lives in Illinois. He is the son of Roger and Jan Kuehn who reside on Jordan Circle in Colgate/Richfield. The book is titled Sunken Dreams and is now available on Amazon.

Steven Kuehn is a professional archaeologist and zooarchaeologist at the Illinois State Archaeological Survey, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

He has over 25 years of field and laboratory experience dealing with the identification, excavation, and analysis of prehistoric and historic archaeological sites. After preparing hundreds of technical reports and scholarly articles, the call of mystery fiction grew irresistible and Steve began chronicling the adventures of Professor Jake Caine, archaeologist and (somewhat reluctant) amateur detective.

Norb Weyer, Thank You for Your Service

I volunteer with Stars and Stripes Honor Flight and last month I was assigned to help take pictures of each Veteran and their Guardian.  I heard that Norb Weyer was to be on the flight but for some reason cancelled at the last minute. I was looking forward to surprising him.

Todays Daily News has a great story about Norb and his service to the United States and he will be on the flight this coming Saturday June 11th.

I look forward to help take his picture. Wanted to surprise him but since this story was published in Daily News I wanted to spread it to more people in Richfield.

Norb Weyer, Thank You for Your Service

Visible House Numbers

6/6/2016

Today some people were canvasing a few subdivisions and were given specific house numbers they were to visit and make an inquiry. Much to their surprise many did not have numbers on the mailbox, in the yard or even on the house.

One mailbox happened to have the door to the mailbox open and there on the inside was the address. How would a rescue team begin to locate someone at that address if there was an emergency?

Why would anyone want to take a chance having an emergency team not be able to find your house in a emergency situation?

Village code Chapter #324-4 requires identification, as partially noted below.

Any residence or place of business intended for human occupancy shall be identified by a street address number assigned by the Village in accordance with the following requirements and standards.

Check the link above for more details.

Hopefully anyone who reads this post will check the code link above and realize it was written for your personal welfare.

Art on Tap at MOWA

July 9–September 24, 2016 Stop in when you have time and see Art in the Brewing Industry. Art that we took for granted. Additional special events and speakers during this time.

Pabst. Schlitz. Blatz. Miller. These brands are synonymous with Wisconsin where the beer business boomed at the turn of the twentieth century. Prior to Prohibition, the beer industry spread throughout the state, reaching north to include Stevens Point Brewery and the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company and west to the G. Heileman Brewing Company and many smaller breweries in between.

In 1892, Milwaukee was home to two of the three largest brewers in the country—Pabst and Schlitz.  During this time, brewers took advantage of the revolution in modern advertising to convince a thirsty public that their brews were the best. This resulted in some of the most iconic images of early American pop culture, elaborate signage, and unforgettable slogans: Schlitz’s “The Beer that Made Milwaukee Famous” or the Girl in the Moon image from 1907 that has endured as the quintessential face of Miller.
