Remember Slow Food?

5/28/2016

'Someone asked the other day, 'What was your favorite fast food when you were growing up?' We didn't have fast food when I was growing up, I informed him. 'All the food was slow.'

'C'mon, seriously. Where did you eat?' 'It was a place called 'at Home,'' I explained. 'Mom cooked every day and when Dad got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table, and if I didn't like what she put on my plate I was allowed to sit there until I did like it.'

By this time, the kid was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn't tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table.

Here is a short video that is very heart felt about our Veterans. A great watch for the Memorial Day weekend..

While I think they went a little overboard comparing to politicians nevertheless it is a thoughtful video.

Memorial Day a Day to Remember

5/28/2016

No matter what your Memorial Day weekend plans are hopefully there will be some celebration and remembrance of those who fought to keep this country free. We have heard of many organizations that support US Veterans and here is another group you might not have heard about.

John McDaniel founded Wounder Warriors in Action Foundation in 2007 and established its corporate headquarters in Apollo Beach, Florida. A retired Army officer, John felt that his service to the Nation was not yet finished. "I see a crucial need for mental and spiritual healing in the combat wounded veteran population, and I’ve seen how sporting activities in the great outdoors can meet this need," said combat veteran McDaniel.

Check this page to see nearby residents of Butler WI Chris and Brenda Diesing who support WWIA in their own unique way.

Happy Memorial Day to all the men and women who have served their country, people who support various veteran organizations and events, and to those celebrating those efforts this weekend.

You can see that one person who read the recent post about Attractive Nuisance commented that it would be nice to read the actual article.  Here it is.

No pit, no problem?
Many readers may know about the Scenic Pit and our very public legal battle with Richfield over the right to restore our abandoned mine by accepting clean fill. The DNR approved our WPDES Permit and the Wisconsin Supreme Court already ruled in 1996 “clean fill facilities are exempt from local approvals” (DeRosso Landfill Co. vs. City of Oak Creek).

Sheriff David Clarke - Right On

5/19/2016

Most people in Wisconsin know Sheriff David Clarke  now the people around the country are getting to know more about him. We all like his cowboy hat.

Sheriff Clarke was on Fox News talking about California criminals. Business owners in the Golden State are complaining that a ballot measure is hurting business.

A year and a half ago, the California shoplifting law changed so that any stolen item below $950 would be charged as a misdemeanor. Law enforcement says this may be a reason for a spike in crime.

Are they nuts?

Danah Zoulek - Attractive Nuisance?

5/17/2016

What in the world is an attractive nuisance?  That term was used by Danah Zoulek in her letter to the Daily News "Your Views" on May 17, 2016 regarding her pit. What is she talking about?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Attractive Nuisance as defined by US Legal is: Attractive nuisance is a defense to trespass by children used in tort law. The doctrine of attractive nuisance is premised on the belief that one who maintains a dangerous condition which is likely to attract children on their property is under a duty to post a warning or take affirmative action to protect children from the dangers of that attraction. It imposes a duty to be sensitive to potentially dangerous conditions which are likely to attract children. The attractive nuisance doctrine typically doesn't apply to adults. However, if a child is in danger due to an attractive nuisance and an adult attempts to rescue the child, the attractive nuisance doctrine may hold the landowner responsible for the rescuer's injuries in addition to the child's injuries.
