The village board discussed a liquor license for Basse's at the April 18 village board meeting. Property owners Roger and Rebecca Basse applied for and were granted a Class "B" Alcohol Beverage Retail License in August of 2018 to sell / serve beer (fermented malt beverages) at their business, Basse's Taste of Country, located at 3190 County Road Q in Colgate. Since that time, the Basse's have met with Village Staff to inquire about applying for a Reserve License, which would allow for the sale and serving of not just beer (fermented malt beverages) but also liquor, wine and cider at their establishment. Additionally, should the petitioned application for a Reserve license be granted, bottles of unopened wine could also be sold to patrons of the business for consumption off-premises. The Basse's have expressed interest in doing this. The Village currently has zero Regular Combination "Class B" Licenses and the three (3) Reserve licenses the Village has accumulated over the years all of which are being utilized, with the last license being issued to Logger's Park in June of 2018. Brett Thicke who worked for the village in various roles for the past 6 years was named Richfield Public Works supervisor.
At 8 AM Saturday, April 6th, the village board met and the only item on the agenda was: Discussion/Action to enter into Closed Session pursuant to Section 19.85(1)(c) of the Wis Stats., considering employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility. – Brett Thicke, Interim Public Works Supervisor Village officials approved hiring long time Richfield resident Brett Thicke as the Department of Public Works supervisor. He served as interim public works supervisor for the village since December. “This past winter, Brett saw some of the worst Wisconsin has to offer as far as weather is concerned,” Village Administrator Jim Healy said. “He was placed in a very highly visible role within our community with very little notice.” “What this community has to offer is very special and I like to think with having grown up here, there’s an additional sense of pride in my work and a heightened level of accountability which will make this a challenging and rewarding position,” Thicke said. Congratulations Brett Look who stepped up to the plate!
