Consolidation Moves Forward

2/27/2017

While that title could be misleading it does let all viewers know that both Richfield School Board and Friess Lake School Board want to continue talking about consolidation. They want to continue to provide information to residents on consolidation so in the future, whatever path is taken regarding a final decision, all residents of those 2 districts will be informed of the process as well as the pros and cons.

The boards could decide to move ahead without a referendum or the public could petition for a referendum to be held. If a referendum is passed or if none is held and the boards agree on consolidation it could take effect on July 1, 2018.

Last week the Richfield School Board met and agreed to continue on the path toward consolidation while many decisions still need to occur in the future.

JS Might Lose Money

2/27/2017

Where do you look to find the approved minutes of Village of Richfield, Friess Lake School, Richfield School, Wash. County and other government bodies?

Yesterday the Journal Sentinel newspaper had an ad noting the following:
Do you know what your village board is up to?
Wisconsin law says it's your right to know - but that right may be going away.

The ad refers to Assembly Bill 70, Senate Bill 42 and the Governors Budget.

When asked, Richfield's Rep. Bob Gannon stated,
 "
Governmental units will still need to buy print space to notice a meeting, but will no longer need to pay to print the minutes of that meeting".

Rep. Gannon continued, "As always, the minutes are available to the media and if they believe it's of importance to their readers, then they should print them as news, and not expect to get reimbursed by the taxpayers for printing the news".

That will be a savings to all tax payers. But money lost to JS. That is why JS is against this bill. No need to call your legislators, they are working for you.

Thank you to all legislators who signed on to this bill. And Thank you to Richfield's local governments who continue to post agendas and minutes on their respective web sites.

Friess Lake Boat Launch ~ "Discontinued Movement"

On February 23rd a letter was sent from Jamie Ludovic, V/ashington County - Central Services Director to Jim Healy, Village of Richfield Administrator regarding the property acquisition of Wally n' Bee's Last Stop Resort.

Looks like this project is on hold for now "due to a lack of financial contributions from other stakeholders".

Dr. Lowell Holtz~New Leadership

2/23/2017

Election results for Washington County indicate Dr. Lowell Holtz received 719 more votes than Dr. Tony Evers in the 2017 Primary election.  Yes the county wide win was great but Dr. Lowell Holtz needs to get a lot more votes to win in April. State wide results were Dr. Tony Evers 249,853 and Dr Lowell Holtz at 82,329.

The April 4th election has two former school district superintendents with a strong difference. Dr. Lowell Holtz supports school choice, opposes common core but Dr. Evers prefers to keep schools as they are.

While it looks like an uphill battle, he can win if voters get to know him and his values. Visit this web site to learn more about Dr. Lowell Holtz.

Richfield, Daily News, and "Bottoms Up"

Richfield got a lot of copy in today's Daily News. Two major front page stories regarding election and road projects. Then on the second page the Daily News wrote a wonderful story about the Richfield Historical Society's (RHS) general meeting presentation of "Bottoms Up".

Bottoms Up is a Wisconsin Public Television presentation regarding the history of beer and bars in Milwaukee. Join RHS this coming Thursday night 7 PM at the Richfield Fire Hall for a a look back at a mainstay of Milwaukee heritage.

Friess Lake Boat Launch

2/22/2017

As many of you know Washington County Parks and Planning asked the Village of Richfield to contribute $250,000 so the county could purchase Wally and Bee's Last Stop Resort as it is for sale. The County had plans to tear down the buildings, build a road from the current park area to the beach and make a boat launch expanding Glacier Hills County Park.

The Richfield Village Board decided they could offer only $50,000 to the County. Rumor has it, the County may not continue with this project. At least not with the original plans. Time will tell if this project goes forward for not. Stay tuned.

2017 Spring Primary Election for Richfield Trustee was an interesting election with no candidates sending out flyers in newspaper boxes except for someone who seemed to be angry and sounding like losers from the past.

As many of you might already know, here are the totals for candidates:

Rock Brandner  1,076
Tom Wolff            927
Pam Schmitt        492
Gil Frank               316
Danah Zoulek      210.

Congratulations to the winners.

Now on to the 2017 Spring election on April 4th.
Candidates for Village President are:
John Jeffords
Danah Zoulek.

Is anyone willing to make a prediction for that office?

Anonymous ?? Campaign Flyer

2/19/2017

Well. Well, Well. Another campaign year, another anonymous campaign flyer. Did you get one in your newspaper box? Sure wonder who took the time to create this flyer, had money to pay for it, and deliver it in Richfield resident newspaper boxes this weekend.

Through inquiry it is a fact that Rock Brandner will not be creating, printing or delivering a campaign flyer in newspaper boxes for Ricfield 2017 Spring primary election.

Through inquiry it is a fact that Tom Wolff will not be creating, printing or delivering a campaign flyer in newspaper boxes for Richfield 2017 Spring primary election.

Through inquiry it is a fact that Pam Schmitt will not be creating, printing or delivering a campaign flyer in newspaper boxes for Richfield 2017 Spring primary election. This was noted in a previous RT story. She stated she plans to do more if she gets past the primary.

So.... who do you think has taken the effort to create the negative flyer, spend the money to print the negative flyer, and take time to deliver this ANONYMOUS FLYER?

The flyer does not indicate in any way, PAID FOR AND AUTHORIZED BY.........Time to play the guessing game again in Richfield Campaign season. Stay tuned for election results.
